Glossary Page 7

Handoff: The process by which the Mobile Telephone Switching Office passes a cellular phone conversation from one transmission site to another site without disconnection. The handoff is performed so quickly that users rarely notice.

Hands-free: An important safety feature that's included with most of today's mobile phones. It permits drivers to use their cellular phone without lifting or holding the hand-set to their ear.

Hertz: The unit which expresses cycle frequency.

Home Coverage Area: The area in which one may make cellular calls without incurring long distance or roaming charges. Some cellphones are activated with nationwide long distance coverage, but still have a local coverage area which is called home. We have calling plans which don't charge for roaming outside of your home coverage area.

Home RF: A digital wireless communications protocol designed for the transport of voice and multimedia content between consumer electronic devices(including PCs) in a residential setting. Operates at 2.4 GH.
